out of frame
i had a hard time in getting these shots when they were doing their final touch ups. they were not posing for me. actually they were in a rush to run to the stage.
the starting
this is the story of sri krishna, devaki and yasoda.
devaki is sri krishna's mother and yasoda is his step mother.
actually this story is not there in the purana. but improvised according to the artist's imagination without contradicting the original story, at the same time trying to highlight the value of motherhood. it was a very touching performance. gudos to all the artists.
redady to go
steel nail is attached to the fingers. more visual appeal when showing signs during the act of play.
ah! what iam i hearing?
devaki is wondering. what am i hearing? sri krishna is coming back from vrindavan to mathura?
pain of a mother
devaki explains her sorrows of not meeting him all these years.
i have never seen any kathakal performance like this. the characters were really crying--devaki, krishna and yasoda. during the continuous 3 hour performance they never applied anything (glycerine etc) in their eyes as film characters will do. their emotions were original. they were living the characters.
i also had a tough time to see through the lens with eyes filled with tears.
Taking Care
When the father returned in the evening, he found the backyard clean except for a bush right in the middle. The father got wild.He looked for the boy, but he was not at home. So the father himself brought a spade to clear it. As soon as he struck it, two little frightened frogs hopped out of the bush and ran away. The father then realized why his son had left the bush untouched.
Caring is really a part of that profound thing called love. There was nobody to tell that little boy to do what he did, it was natural, spontaneous feeling.
Unfortunately this spontaneous feeling will probably be destroyed as he grows up.
The innocence is lost, ego takes over !
Blind girl
This is how the human brain often works when our status changes. Only a very few remember what life was like before, and who was always by their side in the most painful situations.
Life Is a Gift Today before you say an unkind word - Think of someone who can't speak.
Before you complain about the taste of your food - Think of someone who has nothing to eat.
Before you complain about your husband or wife - Think of someone who's crying out to GOD for a companion..
Today before you complain about life - Think of someone who went too early to heaven.
Before whining about the distance you drive Think of someone who walks the same distance with their feet. And when you are tired and complain about your job - Think of the unemployed, the disabled, and those who wish they had your job.And when depressing thoughts seem to get you down - Put a smile on your face and think: you're alive and still around.
